Weekly Letter 04.07.2024

Week Commencing 1st July 2024

Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s been a great week at NUSA - mocks have been brilliant for Year 10, and work experience for Years 12 and 10 are in full swing/final planning; I’ve said a massive thank you to all of our staff involved in delivering these activities for our students, and thank you to you, too, for all of your support with them, too! We’re really looking forward to sports day next week – details have been sent home previously, please contact reception if you have any questions about this.

Staffing:

As Mr James has temporarily left us to go to Kirk Hallam, part of our Trust, Mr Hughes has been successful in being appointed to replace him as Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Attendance for next academic year. As a result, Mr West (PE) has been appointed to be Head of Year 9 (new Year 10 in September) – these colleagues will be doing a handover in the next few weeks. In addition, we’re delighted that Miss Taylor (Art) will be the Head of the new Year 7 in September.

Parent Governor:

Nominations are now being accepted for the role of parent governor – anyone interested in applying can do so by following the instructions on the final two pages of this letter.

End of Term Arrangements:

The last day of the academic year is Thursday 25th July 2024. The end of the school day will be at 12pm, noon, on this day. Students will finish their lessons and be able to collect lunch at break time to take home with them.

Sports Day:

As much as we would love to see any Parents/Carers on Thursday 11th July to support the students, unfortunately, due to the venue size, we will not be able to accommodate this.

Thank you for everything that you continue to do to support us all!

Mr Matthew Turton

Headteacher

Coming up at NUSA:

Tuesday 23rd July: Year 9 Talk the Talk Workshop (in school)

Thursday 25th July: Last day of term

Dear Parent/Carer

PARENT LOCAL GOVERNING COMMITTEE MEMBER ELECTION

I am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent local governing committee member, or nominate another parent to do so. In our school we have provision for parent local governing committee member and there is currently a vacancy.

The local governing body, with the Head of School/Headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. The board of governors have three core functions:

Strategic leadership of the academy within the defined trust vision for high quality and inclusive education in line with the trust’s charitable objects

Accountability and assurance: the local board has robust effective oversight of the operations and performance of the academy, including:

The provision of education o Pupil welfare

Overseeing and ensuring appropriate use of funding

Keeping the estate safe and well-maintained

Engagement: the local board has strategic oversight of relationships with stakeholders

The local board involves parents, schools and communities so that decision-making is supported by meaningful engagement

The local governing committee is delegated certain functions by the Nova Education Trust Board of Directors and these responsibilities are outlined in the trust Governance Scheme of Delegation & Structure available for download at: http://www.novaeducationtrust.net/documents.php.

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the local governing committee’s work. Training is available for all local governors.

The enclosed sheet summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a local governor. Nominations must be from parents, or individuals exercising parental responsibility, of a child at the academy/one of the academies in the trust.

If you would like to stand for election please complete the online nomination form no later than Friday 12th July 2024. You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 250 words. Self-nominations will be accepted but if you are nominating another parent, please seek their prior consent.

If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Sanderson

Chair of Governors
