Weekly Letter 26/04/2024
W/C 22nd April
This Week at NUSA:
This has been a great week at NUSA.
Our roll out of uniform for Year 7 and 8 has gone really well, and parents/carers have been having really supportive conversations with the school to find solutions where uniform may have previously been a challenge – thank you for all of your support over the last couple of weeks in relation to this! Moreover, we start next week with the same approach for Year 9 and 10. As a reminder:
There are no more uniform cards to exempt incorrect uniform
Students are being directed to change into correct uniform from:
W/C 22nd April (Y7/8)
W/C 29th April (Y9/10)
If any student is then in incorrect uniform around site they will be issued -100 points on Kickboard
Reinforcing our expectations around jewellery and nails will come after May half term
For Year 11 and Year 13 students our revision and intervention sessions continue and students have come back brilliantly after Easter! We will write to you in the next week with final plans for the examination period.
As a school we have been awarded the Quality Mark for Holocaust Education; this has been officially published this week! The write up is here, should you wish to read it:

It’s down to the great work of Mr Townsend and other colleagues across the school that we have achieved such prestigious recognition.
On that note, local MP Lilian Greenwood has visited us today to meet with staff relating to this Quality Mark.
Attendance
A follow up reminder; if your child is absent from school can we please ask that you contact the attendance team on each day of the absence by 9am. You can contact us on 0115 9291492 option 1 (please leave a message on the answerphone if we do not answer). You can also email us on attendance@nusa.org.uk. If we do not receive a call you will receive an absence text reminding you to contact us.
We will only authorise a maximum of three days absence for any illness unless evidence can be provided, this can be GP appointment, card/text, medication box, copy of prescription etc. We will not authorize absences for pupils with attendance below 90%.
SEND Drop in’s
We offer a number of ‘SEND drop ins’ throughout the year for parents/cares. These are open to any parent/carer who may want to discuss their child’s SEND needs further or parents/carer’s who have concerns that their children may have SEND needs that are yet to be diagnosed.
