Weekly Letter 23/02/2024
W/C 19th February 2024
This Week at NUSA
Welcome back from half term, and I hope that you had a good half term break. This half term we’re looking at a number of key focus areas for our school, including:
- Uniform
- Year 11 intervention
- KS3 homework
- Attendance
As we refine our systems at our school, we would like to get your feedback on proposed changes to punctuality/lates, detentions and time out of lesson. We will be sending out a survey next week and would be very grateful for your feedback and suggestions. We will also be welcoming you in for a working party in the near future, so that we can ensure your child gets the very best education at our school.
Nevertheless, please be reminded of the following for students – they were themselves reminded of these expectations in assemblies on Monday of this week:
Uniform – students should be wearing full school uniform; there are a small number of students wearing inappropriate footwear (i.e. crocs) whilst waiting for replacement shoes to arrive, for example
Lateness – the school day starts at 8:40am; students arriving after this time will be marked as late
On the note of Year 11, students have received their Mock Exam results on Thursday in the Sports Hall, and there was a mixture of jubilation and disappointment. I’ve reassured Year 11 that there is still time to get fully prepared for their upcoming exams and I’m confident that these results will give students a push towards the next stage of intervention, revision and success in achieving the best possible outcomes. I’ve said a massive thank you to staff, in advance, for their continued hard work relating to Year 11 and Sixth Form students as they prepare for their exams.
In other news, congratulations to Miss Flintoff who has taken on the role of Head of Year 8 from Mr Snow who left at half term, and to Miss Croshaw who has a role supporting the push for Year 11 intervention.
On a separate note, please be reminded that there are parking restrictions outside of the school on the Zig Zags and double yellow lines – please be mindful of this at the start and end of the school day.
SEND Drop ins
We offer a number of ‘SEND drop ins’ throughout the year for parents/carer’s. These are open to any parent/carer who may want to discuss their child’s SEND needs further or parents/carer’s who have concerns that their children may have SEND needs that are yet to be diagnosed. If you wish to book an appointment in one of the slots below, please contact reception.
