Weekly Letter 27/11/2023
WC: 27/11/2023
Dear Parent/Carer,
This week at NUSA:
Another great week for us at NUSA. We held our interviews this week for Prefects and once again the panel were super impressed with all of the students. We also held our Y11 parents evening and were really pleased with the turn out. If you are the parent/carer of a Y11 child and you were not able to attend, please get in touch with Miss Hemm – lhemm@nusa.org.uk so that we can update you on your child’s progress.
As announced a few months ago, I will be leaving NUSA on December 31st 2023. Whilst a new headteacher is being recruited, Miss Backhouse will be picking up the Headship at NUSA temporarily. I know she will do an amazing job.
New dinner cost:
Unfortunately, due to rising food costs, our catering provider, Aspens, have informed us that they will need to increase the dinner tariff from £2.60 to £2.70 from January 1st 2024. This will automatically be increased for all students who are in receipt of a free school meal.
Free School Meal Vouchers Christmas
Nottingham City are sending to us a voucher of £45 for each student, that is currently eligible for free school meals. This will cover the 3 week Christmas break, starting on 18th December 2023.
For all of those that received free school meal vouchers for October Half Term 2023, you will receive another voucher for Huggg, to cover the break and will be sent to the same email address, you do not need to do anything else, relax. Completing the form again where you have received vouchers, will cause a delay to you in receiving vouchers, as it impacts the vouchers being processed. So please do not do this.
For those that are eligible, that did not receive vouchers, have additional children join our school since the last vouchers were sent, or that have questions, please read the below.
Q&A
My child is not entitled to free school meals – should I complete the form anyway?
No – the data is checked against that received from the local authority and your response will be deleted and reported.
I received vouchers for October 2023, from NUSA – should I still complete the form?
No, please do not apply again where you received vouchers for October 2023, you will automatically receive them for Christmas 2023. Reapplying will cause a delay in receiving your voucher(s). Rest assured, where you received them during the last holiday, you will be included automatically. Unless you have a child now at NUSA, that has joined year 7 for example. In this scenario you should complete the form, but just for the child you need to add.
My child is eligible for Free School Meals, but I did not receive them from NUSA for October 2023, how do I receive them for Christmas 2023?
Please click here and complete the form. Ensure you input all of your information carefully.
If I need to complete the form, when must I do this by?
Midnight on Monday 11th December 2023
What is the value of the vouchers?
£15 per week, per eligible child.
I did not receive a voucher previously; can I receive my other vouchers now?
No, vouchers that were available for previous holidays have now expired. We only have vouchers relating to the upcoming break.
When will I receive the vouchers?
Vouchers will be issued before 4pm on Friday 15th December 2023.
Attention ALL- This will take just 30 seconds to read and is a fantastic opportunity!

Safeguarding Corner:
From Safety Net: Online Safety
There is a real and growing concern of how many young people find it ok to share inappropriate images online. It is leading to so many becoming vulnerable to potential exploitation, blackmail and harm from a young age, leaving a lasting digital footprint. If you share it, you are involved.
On this page: Parent Guides | Skips Safety Net (skipseducational.org) you will find lots of useful guides for reinforcing online safety practices. If you scroll down you’ll find a Parent’s Guide to Social media and a Parent’s Guide to Sharing Pictures.
Have a wonderful weekend.
