Dear Parent/Carer,
At NUSA this week:
We have reached the end of what has been a jam packed half term!
I went in to a Year 8 English lesson this week to hear students reading their persuasive letters. They are all performed with confidence and the quality of their writing was incredible. This is just one of the many impressive things the students have done this half term and we can’t wait to see more hard work next week.
We were all lucky enough to hear from a Holocaust survivor this week via Teams. You could have heard a pin drop across school, as he shared his awe-inspiring story. The student’s reaction and gratitude at the end was beautiful to see and they asked some fantastic questions.
Lots of Year 11 students have begun to request study leave. Exams are far from over and unless you know that your child will be revising hard at home (for the duration of what would be the normal school day), they would be far better off in school in lessons with their teachers. We still have two Math papers, two English papers and several other exams to go before the exam season ends. The only subjects which are completely ‘finished’ are Psychology, Health and Social care and Drama. After half term, we will expect all students in school for all lessons where the exam has not yet been conducted. The only exception to this is where a conversation has taken place with Miss Malhi to confirm the need for study leave and to arrangements for study at home.
A reminder that all students should return to us in full school uniform after half term. We have told all students that for the final half term, blazers will be optional due to the heat. If you are struggling to purchase any items of uniform, please contact us as we can help.
Free School Meal Vouchers May Half term:
Nottingham City have sent to us a voucher of £15 for each student, that is currently eligible for free school meals. This will cover the May half term.
For all of those that received free school meal vouchers for the Easter 2023, that remain eligible, you will receive another voucher for Huggg, to cover the break and will be sent to the email address you registered, you do not need to do anything else. You will have received these to your registered email, this morning.
For those that are eligible, that did have not yet received the voucher, please email contact@nusa.org.uk with Free School Meal Vouchers in the subject. Please provide the full names of any children where you should have received vouchers. A voucher can then be sent to you and you will be added to the list going forward. These vouchers will be sent within 2 working days of receiving your email.
Elevate session:
On Thursday 8th June, Elevate will be in school running a session for parents on the following:
Key points covered are:
· Strategies for how the skills can be reinforced at home
· Guidance on what effective studying looks like and tips on how you can support it at home.
· Guidance on how to support effective exam preparation, increase motivation and manage stress levels.
· An opportunity to ask questions on how to help support students through Year 11 and their GCSEs.
Whilst this is the same evening as Year 10 Parents evening, we wanted to open the offer to parents of children in all year groups. The session will run from 5-6pm in our school lecture theatre.
