Ltr to Parents 21 April 23
WC: 17/04/23
Dear Parents/Carers,
At NUSA this week:
A great first week back!
We held our reset assemblies on Monday and the students have responded really well to our continued high expectations. We have relaunched our school values and focused on ‘Grit’ in this weeks assemblies. Grit is where we learning from failures, work through problems, persevere and never give up. It is about us being better today than we were yesterday. Over the next few weeks, we will reshare our values with our students and look forward to launching our ‘Amazing NUSA’ aware with them.
On Friday we held a careers fair for Y9, 10, 12 and 13. Year 11 attended the fair last year but were welcome to attend during their lunch slot if they wished. It has been a great event and has exposed the children to a range of colleges and employers.
Ramadan has now come to an end and our Muslim community will spend the next few days celebrating Eid. We will be having an Eid celebration at NUSA on Monday for all of our Muslim staff and students and look forward to celebrating with them.
Year 11 are now on the final countdown. Please ensure your child is attending intervention where necessary, completing revision at home and generally being cheered on by everyone at home. We know they will all be successful.
**NEW DATE** We will now celebrate ‘Individuality Day’ on Thursday 4th May due to Industrial action. This is a day where our students can come dressed in their own choice of clothes that best represent them. There will be no charge for this. If students wish to bring a little extra money to purchase additional food items at lunch, they are welcome too.
NCS- Year 11.
National Citizen Service (NCS) will be conducting an assembly with Year 11 on Friday 5th May. You will be given a letter with further information on this, but please be aware that if your child is eligible for Free School Meals, that the 4-day trip will be free. If your child is not eligible, the 4-day trip cost is £95. The opportunity is designed especially for 16- and 17-year-olds and the NCS experience exists to engage, unite and empower young people. We would encourage your child to take up this opportunity if they are at home during the month of July.
Strike action:
Two further strike days have been announced.
The first strike day is Thursday 27th April 2023. On this day, only Y11, Y12 and Y13 will be in school.
Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10 will remain at home.
The second-strike day is scheduled for Tuesday 2nd May and I will give further notice next week of which students will be in school on these days.
I thank you for your support during this tricky time.
