What have we been studying in History this term?
This term we have been learning about lots of exciting topics.
Our Humanities club, run by Mr Townsend, got up and running for our Years 7 and 8 pupils. Attendees have been creating their own versions of the Horrible History and Geography books, which we will be putting into the library when completed. We welcome any new club members! Pupils are also welcome to bring along any homework they are struggling with during homework club on Tuesdays.
We have also been running a King and Queen of the week competition for pupils who perform above and beyond in their history lessons. Very well done to those of you have received an award already... and for the rest of you - show me what you can do!
In Year 7 we started the term with Pirate Skills - learning about all the important skills a young historian needs to succeed. We are now learning about 1066:The Norman Conquest, and how England was taken over by invaders from Normandy, which to you and me is Northern France.
In Year 8 we have been studying the Industrial Revolution, to find how England grew so quickly that we couldn’t cope. We discovered who was to blame for the sinking of the Titanic...but you’ll have to find that out for yourself! To end the first term we are looking at World War One and all the interesting and gruesome stories and facts about it.
If you pick GCSE History like our current Year 9’s, then you will be learning all about the Norman Conquest in lots of detail, before moving on to Medicine in Time - which is fascinating to see how medicine and health has changed over the past 10,000 years.
In Years 10 and 11 we have been studying Medicine and Nazi Germany, ahead of those very important exams. So the best of luck to our current Year 11s - they have learnt so much and developed so many amazing History skills over the past 5 years.
Our KS4 pupils have also been attending coursework clubs; and our KS4 revision club will be taking place soon to help support any pupils who wish to attend.
