Our curriculum follows National Curriculum guidelines and aims to provide a broad, balanced learning experience for all.

At NUSA we have a two-year Key Stage 3 curriculum, which introduces our pupils to a broad and balanced secondary curriculum. Pupils are taught in broad ability groups in the majority of subjects, ensuring that every child is educated at a level that matches their ability.

At the start of Year 9, pupils move into our three-year Key Stage 4 curriculum. All pupils study a core curriculum consisting of GCSE English, Mathematics and Science. Pupils also participate in Physical Education every week, and follow our Personal Development curriculum which encompasses Religious, Personal, Social and Health Education. Pupils also study at least one of GCSE Spanish, History or Geography. Finally, pupils add up to three more option subjects, ensuring that our pupils enjoy a varied curriculum and secure a broad academic profile at the end of Year 11.

We expect most of our pupils to achieve at least eight passes at grades A* - C, including English and Mathematics. A growing proportion of our pupils are working towards the new English Baccalaureate standard, invaluable for university applications.

NUSA Post-16 offers a range of vocational pathways for students who wish to continue learning with us during Key Stage 5. A range of BTEC diplomas offer students the opportunity to improve their employability or eligibility for university. We pride ourselves on promoting the highest aspirations for all our students.
