In GCSE Health and Social Care, you will study the following four units:

R021: Essential values of care (sit a one hour exam)

This unit helps you understand people. It teaches you why it’s so important to treat vulnerable people with kindness and respect, applying values of good practice. This unit will help you prepare for the world of work and you will also be able to help others to feel valued and achieve their goals. (60 marks)

R022: Communicating and working with individuals (coursework 1)

You will learn how to communicate effectivity, helping connections with individuals and groups. You’ll understand the importance of good communication as well as ways to overcome barriers, providing examples. This unit develops your creativity and critical analysis through an understanding of the care values. On completion of this unit, you will understand how to communicate in a variety of ways, showcasing your ability in interviews and presentations. (60 marks)

R025: Understanding life stages (coursework 2):

Our passage through life does not always run smoothly or to a set pattern. We have no idea on who we might meet or see. This is very important to remember. Our lives can often be uneven, with many people and circumstances influencing it such as the birth of siblings, marriage, divorce, death of close people, health as well as employment. You’ll learn the main life processes and develop an awareness of an individual. You’ll learn about life, how exciting is that?! (60 marks)

R027: Creative activities to support individuals (coursework 3)

This unit allows you to become creative. You’ll be able to put these activities into practice, with a visit to a Care Home. You’ll learn how to meet the needs of an individual, as well as that of a group. You will plan and deliver activities that will be to both the elderly, as well as young children. (60 marks)

Assessment

Each unit is out of 60 marks.

R021 external exam: 25% weighting of the overall grade.

R022, R025 and R027 coursework: 75% weighting of the overall grade.
